I heard this song on NPR several years ago (like in 7th grade) and it's been stuck in my head ever since. Unfortunately I didn't know who sang it. Or the title. I just remembered the chorus saying what I thought was "[[something something]] apaloosa."

15 years later it just happens to pop up on Pandora, it's the Pixies - turns out they were actually saying "un chien andalousia." A reference to a short film Salvador Dali had a hand in. That was my second guess.
